Our first stop on the “YShop Summer Tour of 2026” took us to the historic Irving Park YMCA in Chicago, a community landmark that has been serving its neighborhood for 100 years.
From the moment we arrived, the energy was contagious. Campers were gearing up for a day of summer fun, Silver Sneakers members welcomed us with smiles, and teens and young adults filled the facility with activity and purpose. During our visit, Karen, CEO of the Irving Park YMCA and Lake View YMCA, shared that the Y had welcomed more than 150 new free teen memberships over the weekend, helping support the City of Chicago's effort to provide safe, positive spaces for youth throughout the summer. SO Inspiring!
We also got a tour of the legendary Bears Den weight room, where Chicago Bears players once trained. While the equipment has been modernized, the room still honors its rich history and vintage character.
What stood out most was the impact this Y has on its community. At YShop, these visits are about more than touring facilities. They are about listening to YMCA leaders, learning about their initiatives, and finding ways to better support the incredible work they do every day.
