Our Summer Tour rolled into the Streator Family YMCA, and from the moment we walked through the doors, it was easy to see why this Y is such an important part of the community.
We had the opportunity to meet with leaders from Community Outreach, Programs, Aquatics, and Early Education to learn more about the incredible work they are doing to serve families throughout the Streator area.
One of the first things we noticed was the welcoming atmosphere. Members gathered in the main meeting room enjoying coffee, catching up with friends, reading the morning paper, and sharing meals through the Seattle Sutton Healthy Eating program available at the Y. Talk about a one-stop shop for community and wellness.
One of our favorite surprises was right outside the building. The Streator Family YMCA may have the most beautiful donation center we have seen on the tour so far. We are not handing out awards yet, but if we were, this one would definitely be in the running. More importantly, it was a visible reminder of the Y's commitment to caring for its neighbors and serving the community in ways that extend well beyond the walls of the facility.
At YShop, these visits are all about listening. Every YMCA has its own story, its own challenges, and its own opportunities to make an impact. The more we learn from YMCA leaders and staff, the better we can support the incredible work they are doing in their communities.
Thank you to the entire Streator Family YMCA team for the warm welcome, the great conversations, and for showing us that sometimes the best part of a YMCA is not the equipment or the programs. It is the people who make it feel like home.
